About the Authors
Jalen Hines
I’m Jalen Hines, a passionate and imaginative graphic designer rooted in Memphis, Tennessee, with a journey that began at Central High School. My love for visual creativity led me to earn two specialized certifications from the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, building a strong foundation in graphic design and digital illustration.
As an illustrator and author for the Hines Family Children’s Book Collection, I bring to life vibrant visuals and engaging stories that inspire young readers and promote a love for reading. This work has solidified my reputation as a creative force in children’s literature, seamlessly blending art and storytelling to communicate positive messages to kids.
In the broader design community, I’m known for my collaborative approach and commitment to helping others bring their ideas to life. From branding projects with local Memphis businesses to visualizing marketing materials for startups, I approach every project with professionalism and a focus on impactful, high-quality design.
My work is fueled by a dedication to my community, inspiring my younger brother and sister and spreading positivity to children everywhere. As an active figure in the Memphis design scene, I continuously push the boundaries of graphic design, delivering creativity that resonates and enriches my community’s visual landscape.
James Hines
I’m James Hines, a dedicated young professional from Memphis with a passion for making a positive impact on the youth in our community. As a recent graduate of Memphis Central High School and a multi-sport athlete in football, wrestling, and track, I’ve developed a strong foundation in teamwork, discipline, and perseverance—values I bring into every aspect of my life.
Beyond athletics, I have hands-on experience working with my family's business, HP Customs and Crafts, where I assist with customer service, production, and business operations. This experience has given me a deep understanding of the importance of hard work, dedication, and high-quality service.
I also enjoy creative pursuits that allow me to connect with others, including cutting hair and baking cookies, which blend artistry and precision while bringing joy to others. These passions, alongside my goal to support the next generation—especially my younger siblings and the kids in our community—drive my dedication to inspiring young minds.
As an author for the Hines Family Children’s Book Collection, I have the privilege of reaching young readers with stories that encourage self-love, fairness, and the joy of reading.
